Consul General Peter O’Donohue and President William Brennan of the Maine Maritime Academy co-hosted a lively Fourth of July reception aboard Training Ship State of Maine. In his address, CG Peter O’Donohue highlighted the solid ties and long existing friendship between the U.S., Canada and Quebec. Guests included Quebec Minister of Employment, Social Solidarity and Labor Agnes Maltais, Member of Parliament for Quebec Annick Papillon, local government representatives, senior military officials, crew members of the visiting ship as well as key figures of Quebec City’s business, cultural and academic community.
The event was livened up by the colorful sound of Mardi-Gras Band members Jack Peaker, Pierre Cote and François Rioux. Sharon MacLeod, an American living in Quebec, preformed a beautiful a capella rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner". A delegation of State tourism officials were also present from Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Vermont to showcase the richness and diversity of the Northeastern states.
